If you programme events for a living you have probably seen a mobile airsoft range on a field somewhere and wondered what is actually involved in booking one. Here is the whole thing, plainly.

What it is

A mobile airsoft range is a self-contained, fully enclosed shooting lane that arrives on a vehicle and is built on your site. Ours is 9m × 3m, framed and covered, with camouflage netting and safety barriers, paper and reactive targets down one end and a firing line at the other.

Participants shoot replica rifles, SMGs, pistols and revolvers firing 6mm biodegradable plastic BBs at low velocity. There is no live ammunition of any kind, nobody shoots at anybody, and the whole lane is enclosed so nothing leaves the range.

What it is not

It is not a skirmish. There are no teams running around a wood, no camouflage to buy, no full day to commit to. A turn takes about two minutes. That difference is the entire point — it makes airsoft available to people who would never travel to a site and book a full game.

What you need to provide

  • Space: a flat, open pitch of at least 10m × 4m. That covers the range itself plus a spectator zone and marshal access behind the firing line.
  • Access: somewhere to get a support vehicle to the pitch for setup and breakdown, and somewhere sensible to leave it.
  • That is it. No power, no water, no cover. Grass, hardstanding or indoors all work.

Setup takes under an hour, and we are running by gates open.

Why it earns its pitch

Most event attractions are passive — people look and walk on. A shooting range is competitive and short, which means the person who just missed immediately wants another go, and the friends watching want to beat their score. That is what turns a pitch into a queue.

It also draws a very wide age range. Ours runs from six upwards, and at a typical show we will put a child, a parent and a grandparent through the same lane inside ten minutes.

The paperwork side

Any supplier you book should hold public liability insurance and produce a written risk assessment for your event and your venue. We carry £2 million and we issue both with the quote, because we know you will need them for the site file before you can sign anything off.

Ask about age policy, marshal ratios and eye protection too. Ours is six and up, one trained marshal alongside every participant for their entire turn, and eye protection provided and mandatory inside the range.

Where it fits on a programme

Family fun days, village fetes, school summer fairs, county shows, food and music festivals, military and heritage shows, corporate away days, and private parties. We have worked Military Odyssey, History in Action, Capel and Vanlife Eats, alongside a lot of corporate days and a great many birthdays.
